◆ Bicycle road
ㆍBicycle roads refer to roads that are set up so that bicycles can pass by marking the boundaries with safety signs, hazard prevention fences, or similar artificial structures (Regulation 「Road Traffic Act」 Article 2, Subparagraph 8).
※ Bicycle crossing road refers to the part of the road marked with safety signs so that bicycles can cross general roads (Regulation 「Road Traffic Act」 Article 2, Subparagraph 9).

ㆍClassification of bicycle roads – Bicycle-only roads
: Bicycle roads that are separated from roads and sidewalks by separators, boundary stones, and other similar facilities so that only bicycles can pass (Article 3, Subparagraph 1 of the Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use)
– Combination road for bicycles and pedestrians
: A bicycle road that is separated from the roadway or installed separately by separators, barriers, and other similar facilities so that pedestrians can pass in addition to bicycles (「Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use」 Article 3, Subparagraph 2)
– Dedicated bicycle lane
: A certain part of the roadway is designated as a lane for only bicycles to pass through, and a lane that is separated from the lanes where other cars pass by safety signs or road markings (Article 3, Subparagraph 3 of the 「Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use」)
– Bike Priority Road
: Some sections of the road with less than 2,000 vehicles per day and lanes are designated to allow bicycles and other vehicles to safely pass each other on bicycle roads installed as road markings (Enforcement of Article 3 Subparagraph 4 of the 「Act on the Activation of the Use of Bicycles」 and 「Act on the Activation of the Use of Bicycles」 Decree Article 2-2)

※ In the case of any of the following, a road with a daily traffic volume of 2,000 or more can be designated as a bicycle priority road in the case of consultation with the head of a city/provincial police agency or the chief of a police station (proviso in Article 2-2 of the 「Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use」).
