About Ttareungyi
Ttareungi is a kind of bicycle sharing service operated by Seoul City. You pay a small fee to rent a bicycle from a rental station, use it, and then return it. As of February 21st, there are 37,500 Ttareungi in operation at 2,300 rental offices.
Unlike electric kickboards that are parked anywhere, Ttareungi can only be returned at a dedicated rental station. It is not necessary that the rental and return locations are the same.

I accidentally rode an electric scooter a while ago and it was pretty good. However, because there are so many companies, it seemed that the rates and policies could be confusing. So today, once about the electric kickboard sharing service.
There are two types of Ttareungi bikes: ‘LCD type’ and ‘QR type New Ttareungi’. The new Ttareungi has become more convenient in many ways, so I also chose the new QR-type Ttareungi.

2. Purchase a pass
Next, you need to purchase a pass through the app. Please refer to the table below for rates. What is characteristic is that the rental time is not the total time that I can ride, but the time that I can ride once within the purchased usage period.
For example, if you purchase a 1-hour daily pass, you can borrow it multiple times within 24 hours after the initial rental. You only need to use it for less than an hour at a time. You can ride it for 40 minutes and return it, ride it for another 50 minutes and return it, and so on.
For your reference, if the rental time is over, an additional 200 won will be charged for every 5 minutes. It’s my first time, so I bought a one-day pass and a two-hour pass.
I paid with Zero Pay because Zero Pay was a discount. If you want to automatically pay for any additional charges that may occur, it would be good to register your card as a registered payment method.
For your reference, in order to make non-face-to-face payments with Zero Pay, you must have the Zero Pay participating payment company (banknote, simple payment company) application installed. If you want to know more about Zero Pay, please refer to the post below.

There are a lot of people who use Zero Pay these days. In my case, I first learned about it because of the discount on mobile gift certificates, but after using it, it was fine. Today, Zero Pay usage and benefits, nearby Zero Pay merchants
Let’s finish the payment like this and finally go out for a bike ride.
3. Visit the rental office
Now, we will visit the nearby Ttareungi rental shop. If you do not know the nearest Ttareungi rental office, you can check the location of nearby rental stations in the app. There are rental offices in more places than you think.
Arrived at the rental office. Ttareungi are parked side by side on the cradle.
4. Rent a Ttareungi
I’ll rent a new Ttareungi. When you click ‘Rental’ in the app, place the QR recognition window that appears below to the QR code on the back of the Ttareungi. Note that the mobile phone must have Bluetooth turned on.
Then the message ‘Connecting bike’ appears. When the rental is complete, Ttareungi will kindly guide you and the lock will be released. I also get a notification from the Ttareungi app.
For reference, in the case of the old LCD Ttareungi, you need to select a bike in the app, tag the card you registered in advance, and enter the password. You will also need to register your card for the first time.
You can use the temporary lock function when you need to stop by the toilet or convenience store for a while while riding the Ttareungi. If you lower the lock in a place other than the rental office, it becomes a temporary lock. If you lower the lock at the rental office, it is returned, and if it is lowered at another location, it is temporarily locked.
To release the temporary lock, click the Temporary Lock Release button below in the Ttareungi app.
4. Return the Ttareungi
Now that we’ve had a good ride, shall we return it? Returning is also easy. If you park the bike on the cradle at the Ttareungi rental station and lower the rear wheel lock, it returns with a voice message saying that it has been returned to normal!
<Before return vs after return>
You can also check that the return has been completed in the app. I think it’s been a long ride, but it’s only been an hour. How easy is it to use Ttareungi?
3 tips to use Ttareungi to its full potential
1. Zero Pay Discount
Currently, if you pay with Zero Pay, you get a 30% discount on the day pass and up to 15% off the commuter pass. The discount period is until the end of the 21st year. It was said that it was 50% a while ago, so why did I only know this good thing now? 😪
There is nothing special about zero pay. You can think of it as paying in cash because the money is immediately withdrawn from the account registered in the Zero Pay participating company app. It’s like writing a debit card. You only need to register once in the app in advance.
2. Re-rental is possible within the period of use – all day ride for KRW 1,000
As mentioned earlier, Ttareungyi can be re-rented repeatedly within the purchased period of use. Since there are many rental stations in the middle, you can ride the Ttareungi all day with a one-day pass while repeating rental-return.
Also, if you are in a situation where you can ride your bike often, you can use a commuter pass to double the effect. The one-day pass costs 1,000 won, while the one-year pass costs only 30,000 won. Even if you only use it once a week, the commuter pass is much cheaper.
If you can use Ttareungi on the way to and from work, you can save a lot of money on transportation. In addition, if you receive a zero-pay discount, a one-year pass is 25,500 won. It’s a complete geek.
3. Accumulation of transit mileage
Those who use Ttareungi along with public transportation can accumulate transit mileage. If you ride the Ttareungi within 30 minutes after getting off the public transportation (bus/subway), or vice versa, mileage is accumulated up to 15,000 points per year, 100 points at a time.
However, this benefit is only available to users with a 365-day pass. The accumulated mileage can be used to purchase the next commuter pass. To accumulate transit mileage, you need to register your transportation card in the Ttareungi app.
What if I pay for a one-year commuter pass with zero pay and accumulate transit mileage? In fact, you can ride the Ttareungi all year round for 10,000 won. 😍
So far, we have learned how to use Ttareungi and some tips. I am ending this post today in the hope that it has been of some help to those who are planning to ride Ttareungi.
