법무부 온라인민원서비스On the 12th, the Ministry of Justice announced on the Ministry of Justice’s online civil service service that the ‘Corrective Internet Letter’ service that has been in operation will be discontinued from 10 a.m. on October 4th of next month.
The biggest reason for this measure by the Ministry of Justice is said to be the fact that while the number of uses of the correctional internet letter service is increasing sharply every year, the number of correctional officers is not increasing, resulting in a severe shortage of workers to review, print and deliver letters written by civil servants. .
In addition, some inmates’ acquaintances or support companies (companies that provide agency services to inmates, such as meeting agencies, errands, and release pick-up) abuse the Internet mail service to periodically publish pornographic novels to inmates, or to conduct sports betting or stock exchanges. It is known that use of the system beyond its intended purpose, such as sharing transaction information, arranging pen pals or meetings between inmates, and advertising service providers, is also a cause of the abolition of the system.
However, many people express great disappointment over the Ministry of Justice’s abolition of Internet letters. Mr. A, a family member of a prisoner, said, “My husband is currently imprisoned in Suwon Detention Center as an unconvicted prisoner. It is very difficult to make a reservation for an interview at Suwon Detention Center, and my house is Jeonju, so it is far away, so my husband and I communicated every day through Internet correspondence, but if the Internet correspondence disappears, it will be difficult to communicate quickly. “In particular, it is very difficult to prepare for the ongoing trial,” he said.
Internet correspondence within the prison can be used by distant family members once a day, and inmates can only respond by mail.
If corrective internet mail is abolished, it will be replaced by e-green mail provided by the post office on the internet.
The post office’s e-green mail is usually delivered within 7 days from the day after application (within 3 days of delivery + within 2 days of production + 2 days on Saturday and Sunday), and in the case of next-day express, it is delivered the day after application (payment before 12 o’clock) (limited to minutes).
Of course, even for next-day express delivery to all areas of Jeju, it takes an additional 2 days (limited to payments made before 12 o’clock). Additionally, delivery days may be extended additionally for legal holidays.
