According to the Jeju Provincial Autonomous Police Commission on the 31st, from the 11th of next month, if you witness and report drunk driving at the level of license cancellation or license suspension, you will be paid a reward of 50,000 won and 30,000 won, respectively.
The reward system for reporting drunk driving was implemented in Jeju for the first time in the country for about six months from November 2012 to the end of May of the following year.
At the beginning of implementation, the reward was uniformly 300,000 won per report, but from April 2013, the level of license cancellation was 300,000 won and the license suspension level was 100,000 won depending on the blood alcohol concentration level.
However, as the number of reported cases continued to increase, the burden on administrative power was great, and there was also a shortage of budget for the reward money, so it was discontinued after six months.
The police corrected these problems and lowered the reward to 50,000 won for license cancellation and 30,000 won for license suspension, and limited the amount of reward per reporter to five per year.
When a reporter who witnesses drunk driving applies for a reward to the local police station, the police holds a deliberation committee to decide whether or not to pay the reward.
The number of cases of drunk driving in the province was 1,246 in 2020, 1,769 in 2021, 1,650 last year, and 1,023 as of the end of July this year.
112 The number of reports of drunk driving is 1,913 in 2020, 4,299 in 2021, 4,988 last year, and 3,301 as of the end of July this year.
Previously, in April, the Jeju Provincial Council passed an amendment to the ‘Ordinance on Jeju Autonomous Police Affairs and Autonomous Police Committee Operation, etc.’ and established the basis for paying a reward for reporting drunk driving.
