Accounts that have been dormant without being used for a long period of time are classified as dormant according to certain standards and can be recovered later by reviving the dormant account, but it is not an easy process. The timing of processing an account as dormant varies depending on the bank account balance at each financial institution.
For example, at Woori Bank, if there is no transaction for more than 1 year when the account balance is less than 10,000 won, or more than 5 years when the account balance is less than 100,000 won, the account is changed to a suspended account, that is, a dormant account. If you find out about this fact late, you must proceed to revive the dormant account.
Generally, you can consider a period of 2 years for insurance companies, 5 years for banks, and 10 years for post office deposits. Recently, it has become increasingly difficult to open a bank account, so the number of cases of reviving dormant accounts is increasing.
If you do not want to recover a dormant account, you can also close the account online and transfer the balance to another account using a public certificate. This work can be done through integrated inquiry of dormant accounts or finding dormant deposits.
When reviving a dormant account, it is a good idea to check whether there are any deposits lying dormant without your knowledge, separately from cases where you are personally aware of them.
As mentioned earlier, please check for inactive accounts by using the dormant deposit search service operated by the Korea Inclusive Finance Agency or the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings & Clearings Institute account information integrated management service. If not, you can also visit the bank or post office in person, fill out the dormant account information request form, and receive the balance directly.
Let’s get straight to the point and explain how to revive a dormant account. It is said that the methods for recovering dormant accounts are very different for each bank and branch. It is known that restoring a suspended account is more difficult than creating a new account. Each bank is proceeding in slightly different ways.
However, if you go to most bank branches, it is said that in many cases, if you transfer more than a few automatic transfers to your account or make salary transfers, they will immediately restore your money. If restored without additional data, internet mobile banking and deposit/withdrawal limits may be limited.
In an actual case, a workplace subscriber succeeded in reviving a dormant account just by phone, but there were also cases where local subscribers had to visit the bank in person and submit various documents. First of all, when you bring other documents from the bank or request automatic transfers, please coordinate with the staff in charge and ask them to reduce the number of automatic transfers.
It is much more convenient than taking care of other documents, and although automatic transfer may be cumbersome, there is a way to transfer it again after the account is revived. I think it would be easier than visiting the bank, checking the required documents, preparing all the documents, and then visiting again.
