Kia EV5 appeared!!
Kia has announced the launch of a new electric vehicle, the EV5. At the Shanghai E-Sports Cultural Center in China, Kia EX Day was held to introduce Kia’s new EV5 to Chinese media. The EV5 is a semi-mid-size electric SUV that was unveiled in China for the first time in the world.
Kia actually plans to mass-produce this EV5 within this year and launch it in the Chinese market. In fact, if it is mass-produced, it will be Kia’s third electric car. China is the market where electric cars are sold the most in the world, and there is great interest in whether it will be able to succeed with new standards such as design, space utilization, and quality in Xijiao, which is dominated by local Chinese electric cars.
Kia’s concept electric car EV5 is strong and powerful by applying ‘Bold for Nature’ (boldness in harmony with nature), one of the five directions of Kia’s design philosophy ‘Opposite United’ (creative convergence of opposite concepts). Kia explained that it implemented a bold exterior.
The sunroof design is a type of sunroof that stretches from the front to the rear. Unlike the outside, the sky through the sunroof viewed from the inside seems to have been installed with an electric shade to further enhance the privacy effect.
The side design of the Kia EV5 emphasizes dynamism with a boxy silhouette. The design identity of the Kia electric SUV is expressed with side digital lamps, diamond-cut 21-inch wheels, and an aero spoiler. The rear design also boldly moved the D-pillar to the rear to create a boxy silhouette, and a rear lamp and tailgate design in harmony with the front were applied.
The front part of the EV5 has a star map signature lamp design inspired by constellations, and a new digital tiger face that emphasizes neatness and robustness is also introduced. Here, Kia explained that it created a confident appearance by combining a strong hood with a future-oriented image bumper.
The interior of the Kia EV5 focuses on realizing a space where nature and people coexist under the theme of healing, caring, and recharging, and has high space utilization, Kia said. It seems that they hoped that the car would become a space that connects people and makes people feel more comfortable, rather than just for movement.
The EV5 connects the first row seats and the console like a bench seat, and applies a trunk that can utilize a rotatable swiveling seat and a table/deck so that the vehicle space can be utilized in various ways. It seems that the EV5 is making many new attempts in the interior part in that it can newly utilize the space where the internal combustion engine has disappeared and can use a lot of electrification equipment that requires a lot of electricity.
The driver’s seat crash pad of the EV5 uses conflicting materials that symbolize the contrast between nature and people, and is equipped with a panoramic display with three screens so that passengers can use various contents. The usability of the space is excellent in that it can be freely moved from the driver’s seat to the passenger’s seat, and when the era of autonomous driving opens in earnest with the arrangement of various seats, the usability will be endless.
Bio-polyurethane containing raw materials extracted from seaweed was used for the seats and door armrests of the EV5. It seems that the advancement to Europe was also taken into consideration, with environmental aspects in mind, such as using recycled plastic materials for eco-friendly fabric seats and reflecting a leather-free design that does not use animal skins throughout the interior materials.
