In Korail, which operates KTX, Saemaeul, and Mugunghwa, train tickets departing on weekdays (Mon-Thu) can be canceled and refunded free of charge up to 3 hours before departure. Refunds are possible after deducting 5% of the fare from 3 hours before departure to the departure time.
However, this applies only to trains operated by KORAIL, and SRT can be refunded free of charge only up to 1 day before departure regardless of weekdays or weekends, and the minimum penalty is charged from the day of departure to 1 hour before departure. SRT imposes a 10% penalty from 1 hour before the train departure to before the departure time.
Here, 1 day before departure means the departure day of the reserved train.
For example, if you book a train that departs at 9:00 am on Thursday, you can cancel free of charge before 6:00 am for KTX and Mugunghwa, and free cancellation until 23:59 for SRT on Wednesday.
KTX’s weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), public holidays, Chuseok, Lunar New Year, etc., charge a 400 won fee from 1 month before departure to 1 day before departure. However, no commission is charged if it is within 7 days of purchase including the date of purchase.
A refund fee of 5% is charged from the day of departure to 3 hours before departure, and 10% from 3 hours to 3 hours before departure until the chase time.
Even if you arrive late and miss the train, you can cancel and refund your train ticket.
For KTX, SRT, and Mugunghwa, refunds are possible after deducting a 15% fee for up to 20 minutes after departure, 40% between 20 and 60 minutes after departure, and 70% after 60 minutes and before arrival at the reserved destination can be deducted and refunded.
However, in order to refund the ticket after the train has departed, the refund can only be made after confirming non-boarding at the train station.
Also, even if the refund is available, if the train has already arrived at the destination indicated on the train ticket, no refund is possible.
